Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair also known as Allied Col. (CD) Prof Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair is a prominent wound care specialist and academic from Malaysia, with extensive experience in wound management, healthcare leadership, education, and international professional organisations. He holds an MD from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, along with FRCPI, FRCPE, FCWCS and FMSWCP qualifications, and has completed PhD in Medical Science (LUC) and PhD ULSIT and other advanced qualifications, including an MSc in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair from Cardiff, UK, Certificate in Hyperbaric Medicine (USA) ICW (Germany) and ESWT (Austria, Germany) OHD (DOSH, NIOSH) CMIA. He was instrumental in establishing the First Advanced Wound Care Unit in Malaysia, the Certificate in Clinical Wound Care (CCWC), the Post-Basic in Wound Management at ILKKM, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Wound Management. He has also contributed extensively to wound care education and has published 23 books and 15 book chapters globally, in addition to numerous best-practice documents, guidelines and educational papers. He is also currently holding academic position in Xiamen University ,China, Banares Hindu University, India, Lincoln University College, MAHSA University and University Malaysia Sabah. Throughout his career, Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair has held numerous senior leadership positions, including Director of Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Head and Consultant of the Wound Care Unit at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, National Advisor for Primary Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia, and Vice Chairman of the National Technical Committee on Wound Care, Ministry of Health Malaysia. He is also the President of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS), Chairman of the ASEAN Wound Council, Chairman of the Commonwealth Wound Care Resource Alliance, President of D-Foot International, and Founding President of the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals. Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair is also a Senior Occupational Health Doctor, MSQH Surveyor and Life Member, Life Member of Akademi Profesor Malaysia, Faculty of National Diabetes Institute (NADI), Professor of Faculty of Medicine, Lincoln University, Professor, Board of Studies, International Islamic University, Professor of Board of Studies, Perdana University, a Central Zone Coordinator for Ministry of Health Malaysia and a State Advisor for Sarawak, Perak, Sabah and Pahang. Internationally, he has contributed to several major wound care organisations and universities, including as a Board Member of the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII), Board Member of the International Partner Organisation EWMA, and Professor, Institute of Health Management (Austria). He currently holds editorial and advisory roles, namely Editor-in-Chief for Malaysian Journal of Medical Research, Editor-in-Chief for Global Wound Care Journal, Editor for Wounds APAC and Journal of Wound Care Silk Road Supplement, Board Member for International Wound Journal, International Journal of Lower Extremities Wound, Honorary Chairman for Chinese Wound Society, Honorary Chairman for SOBRATAFE, Brazil, Chairman for Pressure Injury Committee and Editorial Board Member, Polish Wound Journal. Beyond his professional work, Prof. Emeritus Dato' Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair has been actively involved in charitable initiatives, including providing wound care kits across Malaysia and several countries such as Laos, Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Myanmar and India, Establishing a wound clinic in the Maldives and a wound ward at BH University in India, providing 6,000 free dressings and charity hampers for the B40 community, and organising free wound care courses across multiple Malaysian states. His contributions have been recognised through numerous awards and honours, including Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) from the King of Malaysia in 2013, Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SIS) from the Sultan of Selangor in 2014, Dato’ Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (DMIJ) in 2022, The Norma S. Gill Award From METNEP in 2019, Best Paper Award for IEEE Student Conference on Research And Development (SCORED) in 2018, World Health Organisation Dr. Lee Jon Wok Public Health Award in 2018 With Dr. Nazni (IMR), Gold Award JWC/WUWHS, Simdesswary Oration India ISWM, Certificate from Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Best Biological Product and Silver Medal for Asian Expo.
