Terry Swanson

Terry Swanson is an internationally recognised Nurse Practitioner in wound management and a global leader in wound infection, chronic wound care, and implementation of evidence into clinical practice. After completing her undergraduate nursing education in the United States, she immigrated to Australia, where she became one of the first Nurse Practitioners endorsed in Victoria and one of the first specialising in wound management. Terry is Chair of the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII), leading international collaborations that develop evidence-based guidance to improve the prevention, assessment and management of wound infection. She has chaired or co-chaired several landmark IWII publications, including Wound Infection in Clinical Practice and the Therapeutic Wound and Skin Cleansing consensus. She is the co-author and co-editor of Wound Management for the Advanced Practitioner and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Terry is a frequent invited speaker at international conferences and is recognised for translating emerging science into practical strategies that improve patient outcomes. In addition to her IWII leadership, Terry is Secretary and inaugural Chair of the Australian Wound and Skin Alliance (AWSA) and serves as Co-Chair of the Supporting Societies Committee for the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS). Her professional interests include wound infection, biofilm science, antimicrobial stewardship, advanced practice nursing, and global wound care collaboration.
