Paulo Alves, RN, MSc, PhD, is an Associate Professor with Aggregation at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where he serves as Deputy Director of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing and Dean of the School of Nursing in Porto. He coordinates the Wounds Research Lab at the Interdisciplinary Health Research Center and is President of the Portuguese Wound Management Association. He holds a PhD in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Education Administration and Management, and specialist qualifications in Community Nursing and Public Health. His clinical, academic and research expertise focuses on wound prevention and management, pressure injuries, complex and hard-to-heal wounds, wound infection, ostomy and continence care, medical devices, digital health and artificial intelligence applied to clinical decision-making. Paulo Alves has authored or co-authored more than 100 scientific publications, international consensus documents, books and book chapters. He has participated in several national and European research projects, including Horizon Europe initiatives involving artificial intelligence, extended reality, oncology, palliative care and healthcare education. He is also a Senior Fellow with the Department of Nursing at the University of Melbourne and collaborates with international scientific organisations, clinical expert groups and multidisciplinary wound-care networks.
