Dr Rohan Terblanché is a medical doctor and public health researcher based in Cape Town, South Africa. He serves as Head of Clinical Services at the Institute for Maritime Medicine in Simon’s Town, where he oversees multidisciplinary healthcare services in a maritime and operational environment. His professional interests include wound care, occupational medicine, maritime medicine, diving medicine, emergency medical systems and public health. He is currently completing a Master of Public Health degree, with research focusing on occupational injuries among maritime personnel, submariners and divers. Dr Terblanché has spent more than 85 weeks at sea during operational and training deployments, primarily aboard South African Navy vessels, with additional sea-going experience aboard French and German naval vessels. This has provided direct exposure to the environmental, occupational and logistical challenges affecting healthcare delivery and wound management at sea. His work integrates clinical medicine, operational health support and public health, with a focus on prevention, early detection and operational readiness in austere maritime environments.
