Ellie Lindsay
Ellie Lindsay is a British nurse, educator, and healthcare advocate whose pioneering work has transformed care for people living with leg ulcers and chronic lower limb conditions. She founded the charity Lindsay Leg Club Foundation in 2005 to develop and promote the innovative Leg Club model a community-based approach that integrates evidence-based clinical treatment with social support to address both the physical and psychosocial aspects of chronic leg conditions. Her work has helped reshape lower limb care by reducing social isolation, improving patient wellbeing, and encouraging collaborative, person-centred healthcare delivery within local communities. Ellie began her NHS career in 1977, gaining experience across medical, surgical, coronary care and community nursing. Through her work in primary and community care, she recognised the need for a more person-centred approach to lower limb management. In 1995, she established the first Leg Club, introducing a social model of care promoting treatment, peer support, education, and patient empowerment in a non-medical environment. The initiative has since become internationally recognised, improving outcomes and quality of life for thousands of people across the UK and beyond. A respected advisor in wound care and community nursing, Ellie has authored more than 150 publications and contributed extensively to education and best practice in lower limb care. Her achievements have been recognised through honours including an OBE, Fellowship of the Queen’s Nursing Institute, and the World Union of Wound Healing Societies Lifetime Achievement Award. Today, she continues championing compassionate, person-centred healthcare with passion, vision, and unwavering dedication for all.
