Prof. Dr. Hans Smola is Professor of Dermatology in the Medical University Cologne, Germany, Medical Director and Head of Translational Research at HARTMANN Group, a major global medical device company specialized in offering multiple therapeutic solutions, including products dedicated to wound care. Dr. Hans Smola is a member of the Board of European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS) and of international working groups conducting clinical research and supporting the development of best clinical practices in Wound Management. As an industry-based medical professional for more than 20 years, he is permanently involved in projects translating the basic science to treatment concepts especially in chronic wounds. His primary research explores material sciences and how superabsorbent polymers can actively modify the microenvironment of chronic wounds.
