Rei OgawaProf

Rei Ogawa holds both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. He is a faculty member at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, Japan, serving as the Dean of the Medical Faculty, and as Professor and Chair of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery. Additionally, he directs the Mechanobiology and Mechanotherapy Laboratory at the school. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of both the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Also, he is a Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Thailand (FRCST). In Japan, he has served as a director in the Japan Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (JSPRS), the Japan Society for Burn Injuries (JSBI) and the Japanese Society for Surgical Wound Care (JSSWC). Ogawa's areas of expertise include wound healing, burn treatment, scar management, and keloid treatment. He has served as the President of the Global Scar Society (G-ScarS), the Asian Pacific Society for Scar Medicine (APSSM), and the Japan Scar Workshop (JSW). Clinically, he is globally recognized for his scar work, treating over 2,000 scar patients from around the world each year. In keloid research, particularly, he has made significant strides in identifying causes through mechanobiology approaches, establishing him as a global leader in this field. His research extends to the mechanobiology and mechanotherapy of wound healing and scarring. Ogawa has received several awards, such as the Japanese Society of Plastic Surgery Award, and numerous research grants, including grants-in-aid for scientific research in Japan. He holds multiple national patents in tissue engineering and mechanobiology. He serves on the editorial boards of many international and local scientific journals, including "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery." He has co-authored over 100 chapters in international and national books, more than 780 papers in scientific journals, and has presented over 2,600 papers at international and national conferences, including over 480 as an invited lecturer.
