Dr. Melanie Duran, MD, MHPEd, is a diabetes specialist, educator, and advocate with more than 20 years of experience in comprehensive diabetes care, with a particular focus on preventing complications and improving quality of life for people living with diabetes. Guided by her philosophy of “caring for you throughout your journey with diabetes,” she has dedicated her career to patient-centered care, professional education, and empowering individuals to achieve better health outcomes. Dr. Duran serves as faculty at the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation, Inc. (ISDFI) and is actively involved in training healthcare professionals in diabetes management and patient education. She currently practices at Calamba Medical Center–Diabetes Care Center, Tokyo Healthlink, and BC Diagnostics and Medical Clinic. Recognizing the close relationship between diabetes, chronic wounds, and wound-related pain, Dr. Duran has devoted much of her work to helping clinicians address the multifaceted challenges faced by patients with diabetic foot disease and other diabetes-related complications. Her interests include patient engagement, communication skills, motivational interviewing, and interdisciplinary approaches that support holistic wound and diabetes care. A graduate of the 2-year Diploma in Diabetes Studies (UERMMMCI–ISDFI) and the Master of Health Professions Education (NTTCHP-University of the Philippines Manila), Dr. Duran is a Founding Fellow in Diabetology of the Philippine Association of Medical Specialists and continues to contribute to advancing education, clinical practice, and collaborative care for people at risk of chronic wounds and diabetes-related complications.
