"Hiske Smart is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Currently residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain as unit manager for the Wound care and Hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit of King Hamad University Hospital from 2013 to date. The workload of the unit comprises of managing and overseeing hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber work for 5 monoplace chambers and 1 X 8 seat multiplace chamber. Part of her work is also to clinically oversee the ambulatory wound care clinic with a team of 14 RN’s on advanced wound care for the daily care of Diabetic Foot, Pressure Injury, Vascular insufficiency related wounds and post-surgical complications. As part of their prevention outreach she is actively involved in a diabetic foot prevention protocol for the island of Muharraq in conjunction with local primary health care to find the diabetic foot at risk earlier to preserve limbs and curb wound related costs. She is overseeing all In-patient wound care services with the wound care team with regards to skin integrity from prevention to tertiary care for diabetes related complications and pressure injuries and taking care of the hospital wide pressure injury prevalence and incidence monitoring with annual audit reports in accordance with set international benchmarks She previously worked and lived in Welkom, Free State province, South Africa 1994-2012 and has obtained her Nursing degrees in South Africa (Hons. B. Soc Sc Nursing Science, Free State University – 1989; MA Nursing Science, Potchefstroom University, South Africa – 1994). Her specialization into wound care was through obtaining the PG Dip Wound Healing and Tissue Repair, University of Cardiff, UK – 1999 followed by IIWCC, University of Toronto, Canada - 2009"
