Terry Swanson is an internationally recognised Nurse Practitioner who has dedicated her career to advancing excellence in wound management. After completing her undergraduate studies in the United States, Terry immigrated to Australia, where she became one of the first Nurse Practitioners endorsed in Victoria in the specialty of wound management (NBV 2003; Victorian Government 2004). Her leadership and contributions to the field were acknowledged in 2010 when she was admitted as a Fellow of the Australian Wound Management Association. Terry serves as the Chair of the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII) and has played a key role in shaping its global guidance by chairing or co-chairing major IWII publications since 2016. Her work spans clinical practice, research, education, and international collaboration, with a focus on improving outcomes for people living with chronic wounds and wound infection. A respected author and educator, Terry is the co-author and co-editor of the influential text Wound Management for the Advanced Practitioner, and she has published and presented extensively at national and international forums. In 2023, she co-founded the Australian Wound and Skin Alliance, serving as its inaugural Chair and currently as Secretary. Terry has held leadership and board roles across multiple nursing and wound related organisations locally, nationally, and internationally. She was integral to the inaugural World Union Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) as President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Wound Management Association as Co-Host. She now serves as Co-Chair of the subcommittee for Supporting Societies WUWHS, reflecting her ongoing commitment to strengthening global collaboration in wound care. Frequently invited to speak around the world, Terry is known for her ability to translate evidence into practice and for her passion for sharing knowledge to support clinicians and improve patient outcomes. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys family time, travel, SCUBA diving, the environment, friendships, and walking.
