MD (UKM), PG Dip. in Applied Parasitology and Entomology (SEAMEO-TROPMED), MSc Public Health (NUS), PhD (UKM). A registered Public Health Physician with National Specialist Registry, he is an elected Fellow of Academy of Science Malaysia and Academy of Medicines Malaysia. He was conferred the Fellow of the Malaysian Public Health Physician Association, Honorary Fellow of the Malaysian Academy of Family Physician and Honorary Member of the Malaysian Nutrition Society.
He had served the Ministry of Health Malaysia for 32 years before optional retirement in 2017 as Deputy Director General of Health (Public Health). When he was at the MOH, he has led various MOH delegations to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AID in New York (2016), World Health Assembly in Geneva (2011 – 2015), Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in Moscow (2010), Islamic Conference of Health Minister in Tehran (2009), Astana (2011), Jakarta (2013) and Istanbul (2015), and Health Minister Meeting in all of ASEAN countries (2010 – 2016). He had served in various consultancy positions with the SEAMEO-TROPMED program and the WHO mainly on infectious diseases and public health.
He is currently Professor of Public Health, School of Medicine and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, IMU University. He is also appointed as Public Health Advisor to the Minister of Health Malaysia since May 2025.
