Early detection and intervention by primary care nurses and general practitioners are essential to preventing hospitalisations and amputations from diabetes-related foot disease. This interactive workshop delivers practical, evidence-based guidance focused on structured foot assessments, risk stratification, identifying peripheral neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease, recognising early signs of ulceration and infection, and initiating appropriate first‑line management.
Workshop Objectives
1. Develop confidence in performing structured, evidence‑based diabetes foot assessments, including neurological and vascular screening suitable for primary care.
2. Improve early recognition and triage of high‑risk foot presentations, enabling timely escalation for infection, ischaemia, or ulceration.
3. Apply practical, guideline‑aligned management strategies, including offloading, wound care, and infection control.
4. Strengthen understanding of referral pathways and multidisciplinary collaboration,
5. Use validated tools and documentation methods to support consistent risk classification, monitoring, and communication across care teams.
