Dr. Sylvia Chong Syin Ying is a Malaysian medical doctor with strong clinical, academic, and research interests in wound care and anaesthesiology. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from AIMST University. Early in her medical career, she demonstrated a keen inclination toward chronic wound management and evidence-based practice, which motivated her to pursue further professional development in this field. She obtained a Certificate in Clinical Wound Care, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Wound Care Management. Dr. Chong began her professional career as a Research Assistant at the Wound Care Unit, Hospital Kuala Lumpur in 2019. Working under the mentorship of Dato’ Prof. Dr. Harikrishna K. R. Nair, a leading specialist in wound care, she was actively involved in clinical research, data collection, manuscript preparation, and the application of advanced wound management strategies. This early exposure laid a strong foundation for her subsequent clinical and academic pursuits.She completed her 2-year housemanship training, and subsequently service as a Medical Officer in Wound Care Unit in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Seeking broader clinical exposure, Dr. Chong later served as a Medical Officer in the Anaesthesiology Department in Sabah. During this period, she managed a wide spectrum of medical and chronic wounds in a resource-limited setting, developing adaptability and clinical resilience in a rural healthcare setting. Alongside her clinical work, she remains actively engaged in research and professional development. Dr. Chong is a prolific contributor to medical literature, having co-authored more than 20 publications in regional and international journals, primarily focusing on chronic wound management, diabetic foot ulcers, adjunctive wound therapies, and innovative treatment modalities. She also serves as an Administrative Executive for the Global Wound Conference Malaysia and has attended multiple international wound conferences in Thailand, India, and Abu Dhabi, including active participation in the WUWHS 2022 bidding process.
