Mohd Shakir was brought up in the east coast town in Kuantan where he completed his secondary education. He earned his MBBS from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education in 2006 and completed his Masters in Surgery (Plastic Surgery) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2015. In 2020, he was inducted into the Academy of Medicine Malaysia. He has served KKM since 2006 and had also provided plastic surgery services in Sabah. He is married with 3 children and currently heading the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru. His clinical expertise encompasses general plastic surgery, cleft care, soft tissue and facial trauma, skin cancer reconstruction, vascular access surgery and paediatric plastic surgery. He has a special interest in advanced wound care, serving as a member of the National Wound Care Committee and previously the State Co-ordinator for Wound Care Services. An active researcher, he was awarded the Ethicon Prize in 2014 and has published on reconstructive techniques and burn management in journals such as BMJ Case Reports and J Hand Microsurg.
