Head of Pharmacy and Professor of Pharmaceutics
Professor Barbara Conway is the Head of Pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield, and co-director of a multi-disciplinary research institute, the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention (ISIaIP). She graduated in Pharmacy from Queens University Belfast, received her PhD in pharmaceutical formulation from Aston University and was awarded Fellowship of the APS in 2024. She has a multidisciplinary research portfolio with expertise across formulation development, pharmaceutical analysis, and drug delivery strategies with a strong focus on translation into clinical practice. She was also a Medici Fellow, specializing in driving forward innovation within the university sector and hold several patents in the pharmaceutical area and is a member of the Commission for Human Medicines Chemistry, Pharmacy and Standards Expert Advisory Group. She has supervised over 60 Ph.D. students and on-going research programmes focus on strategies to improve skin antisepsis and delivery of antimicrobials, antimicrobial stewardship, solubility enhancement for poorly soluble drugs, and development and characterisation of novel formulations.
She has published 200 peer-reviewed articles, along with patents, book chapters and conference abstracts.
