Dr Corinne Scicluna is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nursing at the University of Malta, with a growing research profile grounded in clinical and leadership experience. She coordinated Malta’s first Master’s programme in specialist nursing pathways, including the Master’s in Skin and Wound Care. Corinne was Malta’s first Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse and led the establishment of this service at the national level, bridging research, policy, and clinical practice. Her career included senior nursing management roles within the General Teaching Hospital in Malta, where she gained significant experience in service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance. Her research focuses on skin integrity, wound healing, pressure injuries, diabetic foot care, and advanced nursing practice. She has supervised and co-supervised multiple Master’s students, with research projects covering clinical outcomes, patient experiences, and nurses’ knowledge and practice. She is currently involved in national and international research initiatives, including clinical trials and funded projects exploring digital health and AI applications in wound care education and practice. Corinne is the founder and President of the Maltese Association of Skin and Wound Care and serves on the Council of the European Wound Management Association and the European Specialist Nursing Organisation. She also represents Malta in international research and professional networks and acts as a reviewer and guest editor for leading journals in nursing and wound care. She holds a Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Malta, an MSc in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair from Cardiff University, and a PhD from Bournemouth University. With three decades of experience across clinical practice, leadership, and academia, Corinne brings a strong applied perspective to research. Her work is driven by a commitment to improving patient outcomes, strengthening specialist nursing roles, and translating research evidence into education, policy, and healthcare systems.
