V.K Shukla
Prof. Vijay Kumar Shukla is a distinguished academician, eminent surgeon, and accomplished administrator with over four decades of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research. He served as the former Rector (Pro Vice-Chancellor) and Officiating Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). At the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, he held key leadership roles including Director, Medical Superintendent of Sir Sunderlal Hospital and Head of the Department of Surgery. He completed his M.S. (Surgery) from BHU and earned his M.Ch. from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK. Internationally, he worked as a Clinical Research Fellow and held prestigious fellowships at the University Hospital of Wales, UK and also served as visiting faculty at the University of California, San Francisco. Prof. Shukla has performed over 25,000 surgeries and pioneered advancements in wound care, including establishing the first multidisciplinary Wound Clinic at BHU. His research has significantly contributed to understanding wound healing, including studies on bacteriophage therapy, trace elements, and Ayurvedic interventions. An accomplished scholar, he has over 500 research publications, authored five books, and guided numerous Ph.D. and postgraduate students. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and an active member of national governing bodies of premier medical institutions. Recipient of multiple international Lifetime Achievement Awards, Prof. Shukla is globally recognized for his contributions to surgery, research, and medical education, and remains a respected leader in healthcare and institution building.
